The university has close ties to its partner institutions within the Community of Sorbonne Paris Cité University Schools (USPC), which include both higher education institutions and research organizations, especially CNRS, INSERM, and IRD.
In practice, these ties have resulted in a co-accreditation degree program, a number of joint laboratories, shared Labex facilities (and other joint Investing in the Future Program instruments), multi-disciplinary research programs, and much more.
Here are just a few examples of flagship projects these institutions have completed together as part of their partnership :
- The creation of the USPC Center for Statistical and Epidemiological Research (Paris Descartes, Paris Diderot, Paris 13, and INSERM)
- The recognition of the Law and Health Institute by INSERM (Paris Descartes and Sciences-Po) and the accreditation of the Doctoral Faculty of Medicine, Toxicology, Chemistry, and Imaging (USPC, Paris Descartes, Paris Diderot, and Paris 13)
- The creation of joint departments (European Research Network, the Center for Linguistic Resources and Training, iLUMENS, SAPIENS, etc.)
Partnerships with university hospitals
Health and life sciences research is a major focus of Paris Descartes University. Its research departments are organized into large-scale research centers that are primarily located within a hospital campus.
For example, PARCC, which specializes in cardio-vascular research, is located at the European George Pompidou Hospital; the Imagine Institutes and the Necker Children’s Hospital at Necker; the Cochin Institute in the hospital of the same name; the Psychiatric and Neurosciences Center at Sainte Anne; and the CRESS (public health research institution) at Hôtel-Dieu.
