At Paris Descartes, students and staff have access to ten university libraries, one University Technology Institute library, and one Inter University health library.
The ten university libraries operated by Paris Descartes are located at nine different locations and are open to students, teachers, researchers, and staff members who would like to use their services and collections.
The university libraries offer the following services to students and staff members at Paris Descartes:
- Discipline- and year-specific reading rooms for studying and group work
- Over 300,000 documents available for check-out
The libraries of Paris Descartes are dedicated to serving students and users. They offer extended opening hours, and library professionals are available to help research additional information and documentation.
Through their websites, the university libraries of Paris Descartes offer access to over 70,000 electronic journals and 28,000 ebooks in every subject taught at the university.
As a student or staff member at Paris Descartes, you can also:
- Access a number of resources through a search engine available on the library website and virtual learning environment (VLE), including online and hard-copy manuals, articles, databases, and more.
- Manage your loans via your user account, which you can access through the library website and the VLE.
- Read topical guides explaining the document resources and research methods you’ll need to use during your studies at the university.
- Suggest a new resource or request documents to be transferred from another library via an online form.
As of 2012, all doctoral theses that are defended or prepared at Paris Descartes University are filed electronically. By publicizing these documents (the entire text is made available with the agreement of the doctoral candidate), the UPhD portal seeks to highlight and promote the university’s research findings and make them accessible to all.
Similarly, the university grants open access to its researchers’ work. The HAL Descartes platform is an open archive designed to help users file, conserve, and consult the scientific works produced by Paris Descartes University. This portal is part of the national HAL archive and the topic-specific HAL-SHS archive.
